Frozen Light is offering an exciting opportunity to be a part of our new board. At Frozen Light we create innovative multi-sensory immersive theatre productions for audiences with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities. This is a thrilling chance to work with a company at a turning point as their charity develops. We are looking for enthusiastic board members who are passionate about our work and the audience we create theatre for. We are particularly keen to hear from those with experience in finance, human resources, advocacy and legal matters.

Frozen Light create multi-sensory immersive theatre productions for audiences with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD). Founded in 2012 by Co-Artistic Directors Lucy Garland and Amber Onat Gregory, our company have produced three theatre shows and have toured to over 50 theatre venues and arts centres nationally, with our last tour of HOME reaching over 800 people with PMLD UK-wide. In 2016 we were the first theatre company to take a show specifically for people with PMLD to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and we have just returned this year as part of the British Council showcase. We are currently going into development for our fourth production which will premiere in May 2018.

Our audience’s needs are at the heart of the theatre we create. We work with a steering panel of people with PMLD from Norwich and have strong links with a Norwich special school. These groups inform our work, along with industry professionals and our own research, to make sure that our shows are tailor-made for people with PMLD. Our productions are multi-sensory, with original live music, signed communication, and are performed to a small group of audience members at close proximity, to ensure that our audience are able to access the production.
The company is based in Norwich and is an associate theatre company at The New Wolsey in Ipswich. Frozen Light is currently funded on a project by project basis through Arts Council England Grants for the Arts, funding from trusts and foundations, and income from touring.

We are currently looking to recruit new board members to take over from trustees who have been serving since the charity was founded. A full training and induction package will be available to new trustees.
- Demonstrate a passion for Frozen Light’s mission of making theatre accessible for people with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities
- Show a commitment to making professional theatre more accessible to people with PMLD
- Understand the responsibilities of leading a charity
- Be well networked in the cultural industries and/or voluntary sector/business community
- Be able to offer meaningful support to the Co-Artistic Directors
- Be able to advocate for people with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities and their needs
The board will meet quarterly. Travel expenses for board meetings will be covered.
Length of duty: Two years with options to extend
